Somerset House

Avondale were instructed on a 6-floor refurbishment along with the reception and basement in Birmingham city centre. On each floor exposed services were installed throughout the office spaces which contrasted with the refurbished parquet flooring discovered on the removal of the raised flooring.

The terrazzo staircase and lobbies were restored as each step had to be rebuilt and an inlay terrazzo chequer print nosing line was installed to match the original period features.

The reception area was stripped to reveal the existing cornice detail and raft ceilings created to enable designer lighting to be installed. The existing marble skirting and lift surrounds were kept and refurbished. The new area laid with a Havwoods timber herringbone floor and porcelain tiled step detail. New glass doors were installed along with a design lead reception screen and desk to complement the scheme. A feature wall built in the visitor area made from fabric wrapped panels gave a stunning backdrop to the whole area.

New shower rooms and a bike store was added to the basement along with an informal area for a break out/games room.
